Characteristics of Slow, Creative, Gifted and Disabled Learners

In every classroom, learners come with unique abilities, challenges, and strengths that shape their educational journey. Understanding the characteristics of slow, gifted, creative, and disabled learners is essential for educators to create inclusive and effective teaching strategies. 

Characteristics of slow learners

Slow learners are those who take longer time to master new concepts as compared to their peers. They are intellectually normal but struggle to keep up with the usual pace of learning. Following are the characteristics of slow learners:

1. They have low IQ. 

2. Their attention span is short

3. They may lack self-esteem.

4. They may have low confidence.

5. They are not so expressive.

6. They are not visionary. 

7. They lack in ideas.

8. They learn at slower speed as compared to their peers.

9. They struggle with abstract thinking and problem solving.

10. They find difficulty in expressing ideas.

Characteristics of Creative learners

Creative learners are those who think outside the box, generate innovative ideas and approach problem in creative way. Following are the characteristics of creative learners:

1. They have independent thinking and judgement. 

2. They are courageous.

3. They take bold decisions.

4. They are visionary.

5. They are goal setter.

6. They are curious to explore new things.

7. They have firm believe on themselves.

8. They have the ability to sense the problem.

Characteristics of Gifted learners

Gifted learners are those who are academically and intellectually superior. According to Havighurst, The talented or gifted child is one who shows constantly remarkable performance or outstanding behaviour in any worthwhile endeavour. Following are some characteristics of gifted learners:

1. Their IQ is very high. 

2. They exhibit superiority in intelligence

3. They show constantly remarkable performance

4. They have high ability to absorb abstract concepts.

5. They can easily perform difficult mental tasks.

6. They have better attention span.

7. They set high standard for themselves.

Characteristics of Children with Learning disability 

Disable learners are those who suffer from serious learning disabilities. These learners do not learn in the same way as their non-disabled peers. Following are the characteristics of disabled learners:

1. They suffer from serious learning abilities. 

2. They face difficulty in acquiring language skills. 

3. They may suffer from behavioural and emotional problems. 

4. They lack motivation

5. They struggle to process, retain and recall information. 

6. They find difficulty in fine motor and gross motor skills. 

7. They struggle to interact with their peers.

8. They face difficulty in acquiring and using language.
